About NRI Legal Support

A legal practice in India built entirely around clients who live somewhere else.

Last updated Indian law and procedure only

Who we are

NRI Legal Support is a legal practice in India that works only for people who live outside it: Non-Resident Indians, OCI cardholders, persons of Indian origin and their families. Our advocates work from our corporate office in Mohali, Punjab, and appear before trial courts, revenue authorities, tribunals and High Courts across northern India, with associates for matters elsewhere in the country.

We exist because the ordinary way of running a legal matter in India assumes the client can visit the lawyer's office, sign papers at short notice and attend court. Our clients cannot. Everything we do is designed around that fact.

What we do

The work falls into seven practice areas: property and real estate, inheritance, wills and documents, family law and OCI matters, tax, banking and FEMA, business and corporate law, criminal defence and recovery, and claims and compensation. Within them are thirty-six specific services, from a single power of attorney to a multi-year partition suit.

We advise on Indian law only. We are not licensed in, and do not practise the law of, any other country. Where a matter touches another jurisdiction, we say so and work with the lawyer you choose there.

How we are different

  • Remote by design. Intake, consultation, drafting, approval and reporting all happen online. Hearings are attended by our advocates; your evidence is taken by video link where the court permits.
  • Documents done once. A power of attorney rejected by a Sub-Registrar costs a month. We check the receiving office's requirement before you sign anything abroad.
  • Ground work included. Certified copies, encumbrance searches, revenue records and site verification are collected by our own staff.
  • Written scope and fees. You approve a stage-wise fee proposal before work starts. There are no charges for the first review.
  • Straight answers. If limitation has expired or your evidence is thin, you will hear it from us first, along with what can still be done.

Professional standards

Our advocates are enrolled with State Bar Councils under the Advocates Act, 1961 and are bound by the Bar Council of India's rules of professional conduct, including the duty of confidentiality and the rule against taking instructions that conflict with an existing client's interests. We run a conflict check before accepting any matter. We do not guarantee outcomes, and we do not charge fees contingent on results, which Indian professional rules prohibit.

The information on this website is reviewed against current statutes and reported judgments. Our editorial policy explains how pages are written, checked and updated.

Frequently asked questions

Do you act only for NRIs?

Yes. Our practice is built for clients who live outside India, including OCI cardholders and their families.

Can I meet the advocate handling my case?

Yes, by video call at any stage, and in person at our Mohali office if you are in India.

Do you take every case?

No. We decline matters where there is a conflict of interest, where limitation has clearly expired, or where we cannot add value, and we say so at the first review.
