If you live in Qatar, documents for India are attested at the Embassy of India in Doha, since Qatar is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. A power of attorney signed there is couriered to India, stamped within three months and used by our advocates for property, banking and court work. There is no need to take leave for registrations or hearings.

What we handle for clients in Qatar
Typical instructions come from engineers, medical staff, accountants and business owners who are building assets at home. They buy apartments in Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune off-plan and need the developer held to the agreement, or they are constructing on family land and discover the title is not as simple as they were told. A properly scoped due diligence report before payment, and a RERA complaint when delivery slips, are the two most frequent requests.
Alongside these are family matters: a brother who will not divide inherited property, parents who need protection, and marriages under strain from long separation.
Signing documents in Qatar for use in India
Book an appointment for miscellaneous consular services at the Embassy and sign the power of attorney or affidavit before the consular officer, carrying your passport, Qatar ID, photographs and witnesses if required. Documents issued in Qatar, such as birth, death or marriage certificates, must first be attested by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs. No apostille is available.
Send the original to India by tracked courier. The three-month stamping period runs from its arrival. Our step-by-step guide covers drafting to registration.

Tax, accounts and remittances
Qatar does not tax employment income. For Indian tax you remain non-resident if you spend fewer than 182 days in India, with the stricter 120-day rule applying when Indian income exceeds fifteen lakh rupees, and Indian citizens not taxed elsewhere with that level of Indian income are deemed "not ordinarily resident". None of this brings Qatari salary into Indian tax. Rent, NRO interest and capital gains in India are taxable and usually subject to deduction at source; a return recovers any excess.
Keep overseas savings in NRE or FCNR deposits. If you are selling property in India, read our guide on tax and repatriation before signing with the buyer.
Court orders, family cases and working hours
Qatar is not a reciprocating territory, so a Qatari judgment is enforced in India by suit. Family court orders from Qatar are assessed under section 13 of the Code of Civil Procedure like any other foreign decree. Where a matrimonial complaint has been filed in India, remember that a look out circular can be opened at Indian airports; check before travelling on leave.
Our office hours run from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm Doha time, and Friday or Sunday calls can be arranged.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I attest a power of attorney in Qatar for use in India?
At the Embassy of India in Doha, by signing before the consular officer. Qatar is not part of the Apostille Convention, so apostille is not an option.
Can I buy property in India while working in Qatar?
Yes. NRIs can buy residential and commercial property, paying through NRE or NRO accounts or inward remittance. Agricultural land cannot be purchased.
Do I pay tax in India on my Qatar salary?
No. Income earned and received outside India is not taxed here for a non-resident or a not-ordinarily-resident person.
Can I file a RERA complaint from Qatar?
Yes. Complaints are filed online with the state authority, and an advocate represents you at hearings, many of which are held by video conference.
How long does courier and stamping of a power of attorney take?
Allow three to five days for courier and a few working days for stamping in India. Plan transactions with at least two weeks in hand.
Can I authorise my wife in India to sell our jointly owned flat?
Yes, by a special power of attorney attested at the Embassy in Doha, naming the property and directing your share of the price to your account.
Does long residence in Qatar change my rights in India?
No. You remain an Indian citizen and an NRI with full rights over property and inheritance, subject only to exchange control rules.
