If you work in Saudi Arabia, you can authorise someone in India to act for you by signing a power of attorney at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate General in Jeddah. The attested document is sent to India, stamped and used for property, court and bank matters. Families of workers who die in the Kingdom need legal heir documents from India to receive end-of-service dues and compensation, which we obtain.

Typical matters from the Kingdom
Indians in Saudi Arabia are overwhelmingly Indian citizens on employment visas, many of them the sole earners for households in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Their savings go into land and houses at home, bought and built through relatives. When trust breaks down, the questions are whose name the property is in, where the money went and how to get it back. A property dispute or fraud complaint can be run from here without your presence.
The second category is harder. When a worker dies in the Kingdom, the employer, the insurer and the Saudi authorities require proof of who the legal heirs are, in a form attested by Indian authorities, and often a power of attorney from the heirs in favour of the Embassy or a representative. Families lose months not knowing which certificate is needed.
Signing documents in Saudi Arabia for use in India
A power of attorney or affidavit is signed by the Indian passport holder before the consular officer, by appointment through the outsourced application centre, with passport, Iqama and witnesses. Although Saudi Arabia acceded to the Apostille Convention in 2022, consular attestation remains the practical and universally accepted route for Indian nationals. Saudi-issued documents such as death certificates and police reports must be attested by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translated before Indian use.
In India a power of attorney is stamped within three months of arrival. See document attestation.

Death, dues and compensation

Amounts are usually routed through the Indian Embassy to the district authorities at home. We obtain the heirship documents, complete the attestation chain and follow the claim through.
Where a death or injury occurred in a road accident in India during leave, the claim lies before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, and the worker's Saudi salary is the basis for compensation if properly proved.
Tax, accounts and working hours
There is no personal income tax in Saudi Arabia. Indian citizens with Indian-source income above fifteen lakh rupees who are not taxed elsewhere are deemed resident but not ordinarily resident in India; salary earned in the Kingdom is still not taxed here. Resident bank accounts should be converted to NRO, and remittances home are best kept in NRE accounts so they remain freely repatriable. See FEMA compliance.
Our day overlaps almost completely with yours, and we are available on Sundays by arrangement, when the Kingdom is at work.

Frequently asked questions
How do I give a power of attorney from Saudi Arabia for India?
Sign it in person at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate in Jeddah by appointment. The attested original is sent to India and stamped there within three months.
What documents does my family need to claim my dues if I die in Saudi Arabia?
A legal heirship or succession certificate from India, attested by the state authorities, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi mission, with a power of attorney from the heirs. Requirements vary by case.
Is my Saudi salary taxable in India?
No, while you are non-resident or not ordinarily resident. Only income arising in India, such as rent or interest on NRO deposits, is taxable here.
Can I fight a property case in India without leave from my employer?
Yes. A power of attorney holder attends court and your evidence can be recorded by video conference.
Can a court order from Saudi Arabia be enforced in India?
Not directly. Saudi Arabia is not a reciprocating territory, so a suit must be filed in India on the basis of the foreign judgment.
Can I sign a power of attorney without travelling to Riyadh or Jeddah?
The missions hold periodic consular visits in other cities. Check the Embassy's schedule for attestation services near you.
Is compensation awarded in Saudi Arabia taxable in India?
Compensation for death or injury is generally a capital receipt and not taxed in India; interest earned on it afterwards is.
