A Malaysian citizen qualifies for an OCI card if they, a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent was a citizen of India on or after 26 January 1950, or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15 August 1947. Spouses of Indian citizens or OCI holders qualify after two years of registered marriage. The usual difficulty in Malaysia is proving the ancestor's Indian origin and the chain of relationship.

How it works from Malaysia
We begin with what the family holds: an old Indian passport, an emigration or estate labour record, a birth extract from a village in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh or Punjab, land records in the ancestor's name, or a nativity certificate. Where nothing survives in Malaysia, we search Indian records. Birth and death registers, old sale deeds and revenue entries (patta, chitta or jamabandi) often name the ancestor and can be obtained as certified copies and used with the application.
The relationship chain is then documented with Malaysian birth certificates (which name parents) and marriage certificates for each generation. Name spellings usually differ between Indian and Malaysian papers, so we prepare affidavits and, where needed, obtain a one-and-the-same-person certificate. The application is filed online and submitted at the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur through its outsourced centre. We also handle refusals, requests for additional documents, conversion of old PIO cards and re-issue after a new passport.
What is different for NRIs in Malaysia
- Malaysia does not permit dual citizenship. An Indian citizen who takes Malaysian citizenship must surrender the Indian passport and obtain a surrender certificate before applying for OCI.
- OCI holders can buy residential and commercial property in India but not agricultural land, farmhouses or plantations. Inheriting agricultural land is allowed.
- OCI is not available to anyone who is, or whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents were, citizens of Pakistan or Bangladesh.
Step by step from Malaysia
Free review call
Malaysia is two and a half hours ahead, so calls are held from late morning onwards. We read your papers on an OCI matter first, so the call is about your options and not a repeat of the facts.
Authority from Malaysia
Where a representative must act for you in India on an OCI matter, you sign at the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur, or use a notary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the High Commission. We draft the document and send signing instructions.
Work in India
In India, we trace and certify the Indian records, prepare the affidavits and answer any objection raised on the application. Updates for clients in Malaysia go by email and WhatsApp with scans of whatever is filed.
Result and handover
At the end you receive a complete, consistent file and help until the card is issued. Originals are couriered to your address in Malaysia if you need them.

Questions from NRIs in Malaysia
My great-grandfather came from Tamil Nadu to Malaya before 1947. Can I get an OCI card?
Yes, eligibility extends to great-grandchildren. You need a document showing his Indian origin and certificates linking each generation down to you. We help trace the Indian side.
What if we have no document for our ancestor at all?
Indian land, birth, school or temple records sometimes survive in the native village. A certified copy, or a nativity or community certificate issued by the local revenue office, is commonly relied on.
Do I need OCI to inherit property in India?
No. A foreign citizen of Indian origin can inherit from a person resident in India. OCI makes holding, selling and visiting far easier, so most families apply.
