Short answer

In Oman, a power of attorney for India can be signed before the consular officer at the Embassy of India in Muscat, or notarised and apostilled by the Omani authorities, since Oman is a party to the Apostille Convention. Indian passport holders mostly use the Embassy. The original is couriered to India and stamped within three months.

How it works from Oman

We draft the document and tell you which route the receiving Sub-Registrar, bank or court in India is used to. For an individual's property or court matter, Embassy attestation is the familiar one. For corporate documents of an Omani company, such as a board resolution, the apostille route is standard.

Apply through the Embassy's service centre with passport and resident card and sign before the officer. After courier to India the document is stamped and, where required, registered.

What is different for NRIs in Oman

  • Check the Indian office's preference before choosing the route.
  • Limit the power to one purpose.
  • Stamping in India is needed whichever route you use.

Step by step from Oman

  1. Free review call

Muscat is ninety minutes behind India, so calls happen in normal office hours. We read your papers on a power of attorney for India first, so the call is about your options and not a repeat of the facts.

  2. Authority from Oman

Where a representative must act for you in India on a power of attorney for India, you sign before the consular officer at the Embassy of India in Muscat, or use an Omani notary with apostille. We draft the document and send signing instructions.

  3. Work in India

In India, the attorney holder pays stamp duty within three months of the document arriving and registers it where the state requires. Updates for clients in Oman go by email and WhatsApp with scans of whatever is filed.

  4. Result and handover

At the end you receive a scan of the stamped power of attorney, and a revocation deed is prepared once the work is finished. Originals are couriered to your address in Oman if you need them.
